Starscream, the power-hungry Decepticon second-in-command, was destroyed in The Transformers: The Movie after an unsuccessful coup. But he later returned as a ghost (yes, a robot ghost) who could possess other Transformers.

Eventually the cartoon ended, but the toys continued to be made, and a new toy was sold as Starscream in the Machine Wars line. However, it was dark and massive and expressionless, everything Starscream wasn't. So I had personally disregarded the toy... until this idea struck me.
